PTO President Welcome Letter 2024/2025:
Dear Oak Knoll Families,
Pencils are sharpened, book bags are packed – can you feel the anticipation?! There’s nothing quite like the beginning of a new school year, and on behalf of the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), I am delighted to welcome you to Oak Knoll as we set off on another exciting year!
As I reflect on what makes Oak Knoll such a special place, I cannot help but point to the sense of community – the families, teachers, and staff working together to create an exceptional educational experience for our students, one full of belonging and connection. I hope that you experience firsthand – and actively participate in – this welcoming community during these first few weeks and throughout the entire school year!
Here are a few things to look out for over the coming weeks:
1. Mark Your Calendars and Join Us!
August 20: Individual class assignments will be sent via email through School Messenger after 3pm.
August 21: Kindergarten, TK, and New Family Welcome event on campus. Class rosters will be available in ParentSquare after 3pm.
August 22 at 8:15am: First Day of School – Join us in the courtyard next to the big gym at the Welcome Back Parent Coffee to hear Principal Alicia Payton-Miyazaki speak about the upcoming year, learn about our PTO committees and events, sign up for volunteer activities, and chat with friends old and new. You can get a jump start in learning about PTO volunteer opportunities by clicking here.
August 29 at 8:00-8:30am: Community Connection Coffee – Stop by after morning drop-off for fresh coffee (every Thursday through September) and a time to connect with Principal Payton-Miyazaki, Assistant Principal Clancy, and other Oak Knoll parents.
August 29 at 6pm: Back to School Night – Meet your child’s teacher on campus and learn about their plans for your child in the classroom. Afterwards, please join fellow parents at the Dutch Goose at our Parent Mix & Mingle for a casual night of fun and connection – please RSVP here. We hope you’ll join us!
2. Get Involved
There are many ways, large and small, to get involved at Oak Knoll. Volunteer in your child’s classroom (details will be sent by your child’s teacher and/or room parents), find new opportunities to help the PTO at the Welcome Back Parent Coffee on the first day of school, or complete an interest form here. You can also indicate your willingness to serve as a room parent for your child’s class here.
3. Learn About the One Community Campaign
Your donations have a direct impact in making Oak Knoll the amazing school and community that it is. In the coming weeks, you will hear more about our annual One Community Campaign (OCC), which aims to raise $3.75 million to support an exceptional educational experience at Oak Knoll and across the district, beyond what is possible with public dollars alone. The OCC funds specialist teachers in areas like art, music, library, and PE and enables the PTO to support curriculum development, student enrichment experiences, beloved family events, and much more! Please be on the lookout for more information as the campaign rolls out later this month – and click here if you are ready to learn more or donate today!
Sincerely,
Laura Low Ah Kee
